From Warmia and Masuria. Built to play as one.

Olsztyn Lakers are the only American football team in Poland’s Warmian-Masurian region. Founded by a group of friends, the club now develops the sport as part of the University of Warmia and Mazury’s AZS sports organisation.

American football in Poland

The ultimate team sport.

American football is a unique team sport where everyone can find a place, regardless of their build or body type.

It is the ultimate team discipline: during a game, every player must work as part of a single organism.

That is what makes the sport so special and creates an extraordinary bond between players, both on and off the field.

Our story

The beginning…

AZS UWM Olsztyn Lakers are the only American football team in the Warmian-Masurian region. The club was founded by a group of friends in 2010. The experience gained over the years has helped the team reach a high sporting and organisational level. Since 2015, we have operated as the American football section of the University of Warmia and Mazury’s AZS sports club in Olsztyn. Around 70 people aged 15 to 45 train with the club.

A defining achievement in the club’s history, shared by the players, coaching staff and the entire Lakers community.

01

Lakers Family

Lakers Family is more than a slogan; it is a wide-ranging project. It promotes sport for everyone and builds relationships founded on the respect and trust of a family. We aim to make every home game a major family event, with something for all ages: sporting excitement, music, food trucks, competitions and inflatables for younger supporters. This is why we can count on several hundred loyal fans in the stands at every game.

02

Bringing generations together

Football brings generations together. Two of our players illustrate that perfectly: Daniel, one of the first Olsztyn Lakers members, and his son Adam, who had spent two years successfully competing for a place in the first team. That season, they played together in a league game—the first time a father and son had shared the field in the same Polish league game.

Flag football

The non-contact form of American football.

Flag football is a non-contact form of American football that can be played regardless of age or gender. It is an excellent way for children and young people to develop through sport and learn the fundamentals of American football.

It is a comprehensive sport: young players develop motor skills such as running, turning and jumping, alongside technical skills including throwing and catching. The game is faster and highly dynamic.

Poland’s national flag football competition is intended both to popularise this spectacular sport and to help build a strong Polish national team.

The Polish American Football Association has been developing the national side in preparation for a potential appearance at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where flag football is due to make its debut. Our club has also contributed, with two AZS UWM Olsztyn Lakers players called up to the extended Polish national squad.
